Blazer Parr

A return visit to the school by Mr D Parr OB Lowers 1962, has resulted in a donation of a splendid colours award blazer. The colours were awarded for swimming; Mr Parr was a member of the School 1st team and Captain of swimming.

The silver trophy pictured is the House Challenge Cup for Swimming, presented by OB L R Messum on leaving the school in 1906. First awarded to St.John's in that same year and last awarded to Ashby VI Form house in 2005. Lowers house won the cup a total of twenty times and eleven years on the trot between 1952 and 1962. With the former VI Form house system coming to an end; Ashby's housemaster gave the trophy to the archive. It was sheer coincidence that it happened to be on the desk when Mr Parr visited and he remarked that he must have been the recipient on behalf of Lowers house when they won in 1962; cue a photo opportunity with blazer and cup. Still competitively swimming and breaking twelve swimming records this year, so far! Mr Parr recently took part in the World Masters in Doha, Qatar and came away with four silver medals for the 400m freestyle and 50m/100m/200m butterfly.
