Although vinyl sales are making a comeback, I don’t know that anybody under the age of forty will remember LPs (Long Players) but for those of you that do, this item was recently donated by Jean Cotchin, a former member of the Administration Staff at Kings.
Entitled ‘The Choirs of Berkhamsted School for Girls’, the recording took place in the School Hall on 28th June 1981. It was a first recording for the School and involved the Senior, Junior and Small choirs. The first side has music for Christmas and the second side is a miscellany of music from the Choir’s repertoire. The cost of the record was £4.00.
Credits include Marjorie Burnham as the Director of Music, with Piano and Organ by Jean Cooper.
The cover photograph was taken by Alma 'Polly' Rafter, Head of Art at the Girls' School and shows the choir standing on the area that is now, in 2015, the Lacrosse pitch in front of The Knox-Johnston Sports Centre.
The Archive holds just two copies of this recording.
