New Donations

“Hello Lad, COME TO JOIN THE NAVY?” -  a donation from the author, Michael Tibbs OB Uppers, 1939.

A battered suitcase holding nearly 1,000 letters, was the source of information for the writing of the book. These letters, which were censored, were written by Michael and his family, to each other, over a six year period during World War Two, whilst Michael was serving in the Royal Navy.

Michael saw action in every ocean on board a destroyer, cruiser and submarines. The introduction makes mention of his Berkhamsted days. As always, if anyone would like to borrow any of the books written by or about Old Berkhamstedians, please drop me a line.

This June update, by sheer fluke, has become one of comparisons. The donated 1945 School House photo, originally the property of Michael F.F.Stone OB Uppers, 1945, has been signed by the Headmaster, Staff and fellow leavers, a past tradition.

Filing away catalogued material, I came across a 1960 Girls’ School House photo, another donation but this time with signatures and best wishes and kisses and love to Mrs Costin, Housemistress and Mrs Hansen, Matron ……... ‘twas ever thus!
