Stones of Palestine

When you next visit the School Chapel at Castle, take a moment to look at this artefact, on display since 1895.
It is titled the ‘Stones of Palestine’ and consists of a wooden case with twenty one stones, which were collected by Julia Fry, wife of Dr Fry (Headmaster 1888-1911.)
The brass plaque underneath, is etched with a numbered cross and text, which acts as a guide to the places from where the stones were gathered……… Nazareth, Jacob’s Well, Gethsemane,
Mount Tabor and Shiloh to name a few.
The following is written along the bottom of the brass plaque –
“For we believe thy footsteps trod these streets and plains, Thou Son of God”
The display case sits on the back wall of the Chapel, to the side of the steps that lead to the gallery.
